Peirce Barn

Project Description

Rock Creek Park manages Peirce Mill, Peirce Barn and the Peirce Springhouse, a cluster of buildings associated with the nineteenth-century Peirce family milling and agricultural enterprise.  The barn is listed individually on the National Register and is also a contributing structure to the Historic District nomination for Rock Creek Park. The historic barn did not have a fire detection or protection system. The barn was used seasonally as a weekend visitor contact station. The NPS – NCA – Rock Creek Park had a requirement for installation of a new fire protection and security system for the 2,804 square foot historic Peirce Barn as well as infrastructure improvements to support the new systems with minimal modification or disruption to the historic fabric. The installation of a properly designed fire protection system and intrusion detection system allowed for visitor and employee safety, compliance with current life safety codes and protection of this valuable historic resource. Matos provided for all labor, supervision, materials, supplies, equipment, tools, transportation and any other necessary items to complete the installation of new fire protection and security systems.
