Renovate Space for BSL-4 Training Room NIH NIAD Integrated research Facility at Fort Detrick, Frederick Maryland. The project included but was not limited to renovation of two existing storage rooms on the first floor of the existing NIAD Integrated research Facility at Fort Detrick, Frederick Maryland to create one larger room. The intent and function of the space was to provide a mock laboratory environment in which to train staff to navigate the space while wearing personal protective equipment. The program was to provide a single open room that would be used as a training room for the BSL-4 within the building. The project was delivered using design build methodology.
Architectural scope of work included removing the existing room double door and replacing with a single 4’ door. Infilled with block and thoroughly finished. Matos removed the existing single 4’ door and infilled with block and thoroughly finish. Matos also infilled existing drum storage pits, eliminated existing unlevel (humped) concrete floor. Matos concrete refill/re-concreted for new sink sanitary sewer piping, demoed/thoroughly finished existing block wall between rooms to create a single space, applied epoxy flooring and curbs to entire space, infilled core drill location with epoxy sealant, applied epoxy flooring and curbs to entire space, provided/installed 36’ sink base and sink, and provided and installed lab benchwork. The project included requirements for unit masonry, joint sealants, penetration firestopping, hollow metal doors and frames, door hardware, resinous flooring, interior painting, and metal laboratory casework.
Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) scope of work included connecting new SS piping to existing breathing air system on the 2nd floor. Installed piping through 1-18” concrete slab and down to 1st floor training lab. Provided and installed 8- quick connect drops. Matos provided medical gas certified piping installation. Matos completed a GPR scan. Provided/installed/connected new sink faucet and drain. Saw cut concrete lab for connection of the sink sanitary sewer piping. Insulated all new H/C water piping. Provided/installed/connected new supply/exhaust ducting and controls to training lab. Completed pre-post TAB. Matos demoed existing shower surround and relocated the existing shower devices approx. 10 ft. Matos saw cut the block wall to install a 4’x8’ door. Matos refinished the shower walls to match existing, installed epoxy floor/shower to match existing, provided/installed new frame/door/hardware to match existing, and installed a card reader scanner/lock and connected to system and activated. The project included plumbing requirements for common work results for plumbing, general duty valves for plumbing piping, hangers and supports for plumbing piping, identification for plumbing piping and equipment, plumbing insulation, domestic water piping, sanitary waste and vent piping, plumbing fixtures, compressed air piping for healthcare facilities. The project included HVAC requirements for common work results for HVAC, general duty valves for HVAC piping, hangers and support for piping and equipment, identification for HVAC piping and equipment, TAB for HVAC, HVAC insulation, instrumentation and control for HVAC, sequence of operations for HVAC, hydronic piping, metal ducts, air duct accessories, air terminal units, diffusers and grilles.
Electrical scope of work included removing the flooring grounding cabling at 2 locations, relocated (1) 120v electrical receptacle 10 ft. Matos installed/connected wiring for (5) new 120v electrical circuits and relocated 6 existing lighting fixtures to balance room.
Fire Suppression scope of work included relocating (6) sprinkler heads within training lab. The project included requirements for water-based fire suppression systems. Fire Alarm scope of work included requirements for digital, addressable fire alarm and mass notification system. New wall-mounted visual device was installed, new ceiling-mounted visual alarm tree was installed, and the existing fire alarm circuit serving the B1 level was used.
