Project Description


The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Administration (OA), required that Matos provide design/build services to construct 4,000 SF of office space for the Office of Housing in the HUD Headquarters building also known as the Robert C Weaver Headquarters Building, 451 7th Street SW, Washington D.C. 20410.  The project was on the 9th floor. The project supported the relocation of housing personal from lease space in 470/490 L’Enfant Plaza to the Weaver building. Matos planned, designed, and constructed interior office space comprising (14) bays of perimeter office area in the HUD Headquarters Building. Functional requirements included accommodating (5) 150 square foot private offices, (6) 100 square foot supervisory workstations, (26) 56 square foot working level workstations, collaborative space for group meeting, GSA P100, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, International Suite Codes, GSA ADA/ABA Guidelines, GSA/HUD/DC SHPO Programmatic Agreement for Historic Preservation, Historic Preservation. The project included requirements for architectural and engineering design, architectural (flooring, ceiling, painting, new walls, doors and windows, wall insulation), mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Demolition scope of work included removal and disposal of wall partitions, walls, exterior curtain walls, doors, windows, signage, walk off mats, flooring, acoustical ceiling, cabinets (wall, floor), countertops, electrical, mechanical, fire suppression, and fire alarm.

Historic Construction Materials scope of work included the removal and salvaging of identified historic items and materials. 

Plumbing scope of work included requirements for plumbing modifications throughout the entire project area.

HVAC scope of work included requirements for HVAC modifications throughout the entire project area which included removing and replacing all existing ductwork and diffusers and accessories, air registers, VAV boxes, hydronic piping, and return air grilles. 

Electrical scope of work included requirements for electrical modifications throughout the entire project area including requirements to remove and replace lighting, lighting controls, conduit, wire, receptacles, branch circuit conduit and conductors. Provided access to walkerduct power duct and provided a pedestal service fitting with WHIP to powered furniture system. Provided terminations to pedestals and furniture systems. Provided homerun conductors from device load to panelboard based on circuit length.
